Fees and margin

How Detion estimates trading fees, margin, buying power and leverage, and why the final numbers can differ.

On this page

Detion shows fee and margin estimates in the order ticket so you can compare trades quickly. The numbers are built from each market's published settings. They are estimates, and the trading app sets the final values when your order is placed.

Fee estimate#

Each market publishes a maker rate, a taker rate and, for options, a cap. Detion applies them like this:

text
fee = rate × index price × amount
(options: no more than cap × option price × amount)
      + base fee (takers only)
  • Rate is the maker rate or the taker rate, depending on whether your order would add or remove liquidity.
  • Index price × amount is the notional value of the order in the underlying.
  • Cap applies to options. It limits the percentage part of the fee to a share of the option's price, so cheap options are not charged more than they are worth.
  • Base fee is a flat amount added to taker orders.

Maker or taker?#

An order is treated as a taker if it would trade immediately, and a maker if it would rest on the book.

Hover over Estimated Fee in the ticket for a summary of which rate was used.

Margin#

Margin is the collateral set aside to support a position.

  • Options. Buying an option requires the full premium, so Margin Required equals the notional cost. Selling shows a dash, because Detion does not estimate the requirement for short options.
  • Perps. Margin Required is the market's initial margin rate multiplied by the order's notional value.

Buying power and leverage#

Both need a linked account.

  • Buying Power is your account value minus the initial margin already in use, never below zero.
  • Leverage (perps) is the order's notional value divided by your account value.

Cost and credit#

For options, the last line of the ticket is Max Cost for a buy and Credit for a sell.

SideFormula
BuyNotional + estimated fee
SellNotional − estimated fee

Why the final numbers can differ#

  • Fee rates and margin settings can change.
  • The price you actually trade at can differ from the quote you saw.
  • Detion does not estimate margin for short options.
  • Detion's estimate treats your order alone, not the rest of your portfolio.

Treat the ticket as a planning tool, and check the confirmation in the trading app before you sign.
