Market data
What Detion streams, how often it updates, what the connection indicator means and how reconnection works.
Every price in the terminal comes from a public, live market data feed. This page describes what the terminal asks for and what to expect.
What the terminal loads#
| Data | Used for |
|---|---|
| Currencies and instruments | The list of underlyings, expiries, strikes and perp markets, plus each market's tick size, minimum amount, fee rates and margin settings. |
| Tickers | Bid, ask, mark, index, implied volatility, Greeks, funding, open interest and 24h statistics. |
| Order books | The Book panels and the best bid and ask in the ticket. |
| Recent trades | The Trade Feed and the Trades tab. |
| Index candles | The perpetuals chart. |
Public data needs no account and no wallet.
Update behaviour#
- Tickers stream about once per second for the instruments on screen. The chain subscribes to the contracts for the expiry you are looking at.
- Order books stream a limited number of price levels on each side, enough to show the best prices and nearby depth.
- Markets refreshes every few seconds.
- Your account is the only data that needs a wallet signature. It refreshes about every seven seconds once linked. See Link your trading account.
Connection status#
The status bar at the bottom of the terminal shows the state of the connection, the round-trip latency in milliseconds and the current UTC time.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Connecting… | The terminal is opening the connection. |
| Live | The connection is open and data is streaming. |
| Reconnecting… | The connection dropped and Detion is trying again. |
| Disconnected | The connection is closed. |
When the connection drops, Detion reconnects on its own and re-subscribes to what is on screen. If it cannot reach the feed at all, the terminal shows Couldn't reach the market feed with a Try again button.
Time and units#
- Expiry dates and the status bar clock are in UTC.
- Prices are in US dollars.
- Funding is per hour, and the Markets page also shows a simple annualised figure. See Perps and funding.
Accuracy#
The home page also shows live prices. If the feed is unavailable, those figures show dashes instead of numbers.
